Nikita Tidwell

My name is Nikita Tidwell and I am excited to be chosen as the Principal of Main Prep.

I grew up right here in Akron, attending Akron Public Schools. I had a wonderful teacher in school named Mrs. Thomas that made learning fun for me. It also helped that I was the teacher's pet. She was my teacher for Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade and she helped to build a lasting love and thirst for knowledge. I knew, after having such wonderful experiences with Mrs.Thomas that I wanted to be a teacher just like her.

I attended Essex Elementary School, then moved on to Litchfield, and finally graduated from Firestone High School. Upon graduating I began college at The University of Akron and received my degree in Child Development and Early Childhood Education in 2003. During my years in college, I worked with students of all ages, races, and backgrounds. I tutored, worked in group counseling centers, and volunteered at local events.

Upon graduating from College I began working at Ida B. Wells, a community school located on the West Side of Akron where I taught Kindergarten for a year and a half. My experiences teaching Kindergarten were wonderful and very rewarding.  After Ida B. Wells, I moved on to Hope Academy where I taught 3rd grade for eight years and eventually moved on to Middlebury Prep where I continued to teach 3rd grade for two more years. My experiences teaching both Kindergarten and 3rd grade have prepared me for this new journey that I am embarking on as Principal at Main Prep.

Each day I am learning new things about myself and my students. I strive to challenge the students and to raise the bar on the level of education that each student receives here at Main Prep. I am excited about all of the wonderful things that are yet to come. I'm looking forward to the rewards and challenges that lay ahead of me each day.

"Teaching is my life's mission and I believe it is my job to mold the minds of our youth and to steer them in a positive direction."
